When Your Mind Won’t Stop Spinning
How to Find Peace in Overthinking and Anxiety
Do you ever feel like your thoughts just won’t stop? Maybe your mind keeps replaying a mistake, worrying about the future, or asking, “Did I get this right?”
This is a cycle of fear-driven thinking, which some call spinning—or you might recognize it as overthinking, rumination, or mental loops. You might notice yourself thinking:
“What if I blew it?”
“Did I disappoint God?”
“Maybe if I pray longer or think harder, I can fix this.”
Spinning gives the illusion of control, but it only strengthens fear. Like a hamster wheel, your mind moves fast, but you never get anywhere.
Why Spinning Happens
Spinning and overthinking are the brain’s way of trying to find certainty in uncertainty. This mental habit is rooted in fear, not faith.
Over time, we begin to associate worry with “solving the problem,” but peace never comes from thinking harder.
God’s Invitation to Rest
Isaiah 26:3 reminds us:
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”
Peace doesn’t come from mental effort—it comes from trusting God in uncertainty. Even when your mind feels restless, God is present and steady.
Breaking the Cycle of Spinning and Anxiety
You don’t have to stay trapped in mental loops. Try these steps:
Recognize the spinning pattern in your thoughts.
Reject the lie that you must think your way to peace.
Replace spinning with God’s truth: “You are with me. I don’t need to have all the answers.”
Rehearse peace through small acts of trust, prayer, and obedience.
Rejoice in each moment you choose God over fear.
Even tiny steps can retrain your mind to rest in God’s presence, weakening fear’s grip and cultivating lasting peace.
If spinning, overthinking, or anxiety has kept you trapped, you don’t have to face it alone. I work with women who want to move from mental loops to lasting peace in Christ.
