High school graduation, then adios. . .hasta la vista, bebe.
Poof. They’re gone, a magician’s trick?
No. It’s us. It’s me. It’s our church youth groups.
Like too many parents, I have a kid who’s out of high school and stopped attending church altogether.
In junior high and high school, she went to youth group, special teen events at church, even missions trips. When she returned from the Dominican Republic she said she wanted to go back as a health worker one day.
One day?
I felt proud — too proud? — like the Hubs and I are doing something right with our kid.
Now I’m not so sure.
This video got to me. I encourage you to take the two minutes to watch it. You may agree or disagree. That’s cool. Just think, please. And pray like it’s your battle cry.
Let us not lose this generation.

Question: How can we help our kids remain connected to church after high school? Ideas, anyone?
THIS is great and exactly right! We have a youth in our home now that was dealing with the ever-present drama in youth group.
Drama, especially amongst girls is, IMO, one of the main culprits for young adults not coming back to church after graduation and they don’t have to live by their parent’s rules.
My husband and I have talked about this, but don’t really know what a great solution is.
We would be hard pressed to find a church that doesn’t have a youth group program or one that functions without strife.
Thanks for your comment, Kela. The Bible puts parents in charge of the spiritual training of their kids. Does this mean we should not have youth groups, ever? Probably not. There’s a place for them, especially among kids whose parents are not believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We parents need to follow the Lord’s instruction and make godly decisions.
All I can say is………
Community community community……
We are ALL hungering for GENUINE, AUTHENTIC REAL COMMUNITY.
We’d ALL stay together for THAT.

Thanks for sharing. Why did you stop being a youth director?
