cheri-hardaway-personal-website-photoDo you have a kid who’s addicted to drugs? Or has experimented with alcohol? Do you know someone who does?

Cheri Hardaway, an author and co-founder (with her husband) of Glass House Ministries, has lived the nightmare. The lying. The stealing. Phone calls from the police in the middle of the night. Rehab.

Cheri is my special guest Tuesday, November 9, at 2 p.m. Eastern on my weekly online radio show “Sisterhood of Beautiful Warriors,” where you meet ordinary Christian women like you who have faced a life struggle — anything from abortion and teen pregnancy to marriage diffuculties, overwhelming fear, and childhood sexual abuse — and found freedom.

Can’t listen live? No problem. Listen to the podcast. Here’s the link to the podcast: http://blogtalkradio.com/cwa-radio/2010/11/09/sisterhood-of-beautiful-warriors/ Sweet beautiful warriors, please Facebook and tweet this post to tell your friends. Some are stuggling with kids on drugs. Thanks. 🙂

Both of Cheri’s sons chose the route of the prodigal. The eldest left home at 18 after Cheri and her husband, Wayne, confronted him over his drug use. When their second son abused drugs, they delivered an an ultimatum: “Get help or get out.” He got help at Teen Challenge, a faith-based drug rehabilitation program.

If you’re wondering, Cheri and her husband are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, and so are their four children. Yes, drug addiction happens in Christian homes. Cheri admits to feelings of shame, inferiority, and failure not only as parents but as people.

“We were full of bitterness and disillusionment,” she told blogger Kathleen L. Maher here.  “God used the circumstances of our prodigal sons to meet us right where we were and teach us about His unconditional love and acceptance. He delivered us from the lies we had believed, that we had to perform to earn His love.”

The notion that you have to do do do to stay right with God is a lie. The truth: Your faith in God is what matters. His grace will work in you to be kind and loving, to serve others, to pray and read Scripture. Here’s one of many Bible verses that speak to overflowing love from faith in God: “It is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).

One last thing, you’ll want to get Cheri’s book, Worth Every Tear if someone you love is dealing with addictions. Her memoir is real and encouraging.

You Are Loved!
