K-Love, a radio show I listen to daily, is pumping its Survive to Five campaign to help kids eat
and drink
and grow
and love Jesus.
The radio station is partnering with World Vision, a highly respected, Christian humanitarian relief organization that uses the vast majority of its donation on kids.
Not administrators.
Not paper work.
KIDS! Hungry kids.
We Met Eder
We “met” Eder at a Casting Crowns concert. Like hundreds of other photos, Eder’s picture was on a table. He has the same birthday as my son, John. John said, “This one. Eder.” And so our relationship with Eder began. My family sponsored Eder for several years. He is from the mountains of Peru, has a mom and dad, and several siblings.
By the time we began sponsoring Eder — who wrote us and sent us beautiful hand-drawn pictures — World Vision had worked in his village for years, digging wells for clean water, setting up a school so children (and adults) could read and write and do basic math, building a health clinic, organizing Bible studies, and teaching the adults and older kids how to make a living. Eder’s mom and dad were taught how to raise guinea pigs for food. (I know this sounds strange to Americans. . .not to Peruvians.)
We Met Didier
Once World Vision thoroughly helped Eder’s town so it could thrive without outside help, we were assigned a new child to help in another village in Peru. His name is Didier. He’s 10 years old and as cute as Eder. All the kids are cute.
Didier isn’t smiley yet. Like Eder. He will be. In time.
World Vision is working in the town to set up clean water and provide good nutrition. They still have a school and medical clinic to build. In time.
Who Will You Meet?
My dear readers, I encourage you to prayerfully consider sponsoring a child through World Vision.
“It’s hard to imagine but millions of children don’t even survive to five years of age because of malnutrition, malaria, and other preventable diseases. We’ve partnered together to help change that and we hope you’ll join us,” says World Vision on the K-Love site. The monthly donation is about a dollar a day. Would you consider helping a little one loved by God?
Again, here’s the link. Check it out, pray, make a difference in one child’s life.
