Susan Phillips – Vista, CA

Susan Phillips is a certified Biblical Counselor and has practiced in California for over 18 years. Susan and her late husband, Wayne, became “accidental counselors” early in their marriage after Wayne was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease and given three years to live. People watched their family cope with such a tragic illness with grace, dignity, humor, and perseverance and gradually began calling for advice, encouragement, and support for their own struggles. Recognizing this as a calling from God, Susan and Wayne proceeded to equip themselves with formal training in Biblical Counseling and counseled as a team until Wayne’s passing in 2011. Susan has a wide variety of life experiences to draw from, having dealt with divorce and remarriage; a spouse with substance abuse; loss of parents, siblings, and spouse; struggles with weight, depression, anxiety, financial struggles, child-rearing, blended family, dishonesty, and hiding, to name a few. Grace is the overarching theme of Susan’s approach to counseling along with an almost ridiculous optimism about what happens when someone seeks God and the wisdom of His Word earnestly for help.

Qualifications: Certified with the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC) and the Association of Biblical Counselors (ABC). In the process of certification with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). Completed Level One and Two certification with the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation (CCEF), an adjunct to Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
