When you come to your friend Jesus and rest in him, you’ll hear God’s comforting whispers. Amazing.
Jesus says “Come.” When you come and rest in him, wonderful things happen. Your jitters flutter away. Sadness lifts. Irritability takes a hike.
Then you can hear God’s whispers. For me this passage describes it best:
The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire.
And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” (1 Kings 19:11-13)
The prophet Elijah heard God’s whispers. You can too. God speaks words of comfort and love. They encourage, not condemn. Words like:
“You are my Beloved.”
“You are mine. Always. For keeps.”
“In me you are safe.”
“You are precious, my daughter.”
“I cannot love you any less or any more. I am love.”
“Well done.”
Have you heard God’s whispers of love recently? Find a quiet place and quiet your mind. (Lots of noise between your pierced ears, right?!) Talk to the Lord, your very best friend.
Then listen.
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
How does God speak to you? Have you heard His voice lately?
P.S. If you still have trouble hearing His whisper, please contact me and I’ll write you back with extra helps.
You Are Blessed!
Great post, Lucy! I love reading what you write. This got me thinking, quite a lot.
How does God whisper to me? A lot of the time, through the Holy Spirit, through instinct and intuition, through scripture and through prayer, just knowing, I gain a sense of peace. When I am not listening, there is discomfort and a lack of harmony.
Thank you, Becca. I hear God best through Scripture. I need to develop better listening while praying. . .not just me talking, but also quieting my mind and really listening. Not easy for me. God knows it’s a desire of my heart. 🙂
I know that God is truly with me. This blog post came in perfect timing. I am tired. So very tired. I have begged the “air” for a few days “vacation”. I have been trying to decide what I can drop. There is little that I can let go of. And, sadly, the one thing I most obviously need to let go of is something that I will mourn if I do. Anyway, my point is, well hidden in my words as it is, that God is telling me right now, through this blog post, that I need to go to Him to find my rest and the answers as to what I should do next. I can’t believe how many times I miss the obvious. Here I was, missing it again.
Yes, Karen, when you are weary go to Jesus. His burden is light. Rest, talk with him, listen. I’m praying for you. God loves you dearly.
I love God’s Whispers! They are intimate and precious~clear direction to a quiet mind and spirit! Thanks Lucy…
You are so welcome, Pam. 🙂
Lucy, Last night the one who hisses tried churning up fear in my heart: “You have so much to do, you’ll never get it done, you’re so slow…you’re going to be such a disappointment.”
I determined that I wasn’t going to come undone, so I reached for my Bible. As I adjusted a page that keeps falling out, a few highlighted verses were there to whisper words that swept away every fear: “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
Psalm 34:4-5
Our God has wonderful words for all of us. Those who listen, like you, are comforted. To God be the glory.
